Van de Oostzee naar de Noordzee

Woensdag 14/8/2013: Vandaag gaat onze tocht verder op het Kiel kanaal. We hebben al 40 van de 100km afgelegd, dus nog 60 te gaan. Tel daarbij nog een paar km om bij Rendsburg te geraken. Gisteren hebben we voor de zekerheid toch nog wat benzine gebunkerd.
De weg is lang, steeds tussen de bomen, om de halve km een bordje hoe ver het nog is. Vandaag is er ook zo goed als geen verkeer van grote boten op het kanaal omdat er een staking is aan de sluizen van Kiel. Al goed dat we daar gisteren nog zijn door geraakt.
Seppe heeft zowat ¾ van het traject gestuurd. Voor een 13 jarige niet zo evident want hij is nogal snel afgeleid. Ik heb ondertussen de boot wat opgeruimd en daarna een tukje gedaan.
Rond 16 uur waren we in Brunsbüttel. We liggen in de jachthaven voor de sluis. Het is pas hoogtij rond 20 uur en pas dan is het de moeite om de Elbe af te varen naar Cuxhafen. Dat zal dus morgen om 8 uur worden.
Nu staan we voor het moeilijkste stuk: de Deutsche Bucht. Iedereen die hier ligt (vooral Hollanders kijken met een klein hartje naar deze overtocht. De weersvoorspelling zijn niet zo goed. Het probleem is dat de afstanden vrij groot zijn, de zee heel ruw kan zijn, het tij moet meezitten. Het goed weer venster om de overtocht te maken moet dus ook vrij lang zijn. Op dit ogenblik ziet het er niet zo goed uit. Vooral W en ZW, waar het beter zou zijn een Z of O wind te hebben. NW is ook goed maar dan niet te hard want NW brengt grote golven. Er zal dus de komende dagen met veel aandacht naar het weer gekeken worden. Hoe dan ook zal Cuxhafen de uitvalbasis zijn.

Wedensday 14/8:Today, we Proceed on the Kiel Canal. We have sailed already 40km of the 100km, so another 60 to go. Add a few miles to getiIn Rendsburg. Yesterday we also bunkered some fuel to be sure.
The road is long, always boarded by trees, every half km a sign how far it is. Today there is virtually no movement of big boats on the canal because there is a strike in the locks of Kiel. Good that we were able to pass yesterday.
Seppe has nearly steered ¾ of the route. For a 13 year old boy not so obvious because he is quite easily distracted. IIn the meantime I cleaned the inner boat and then took a nap.
Around 4pm we arived in Brunsbüttel. We arelaying in the marina just before the lock. There is only high tide around 8pm and only at that moment is it worth to sail downstream the Elbe to Cuxhaven. So it will be 8 am tomorrow.
Now we are facing the most difficult par of our journey: the Deutsche Bucht. Everyone who is laying in the harbour (especially Dutch boats) are looking with a some anxiety towards this crossing. The weather forecast is not so good. The problem is that the distances are quite large, the sea can be very rough, the tide must fit with the weather window. So, the good weather window for making the crossing must be quite long. At this moment it does not look so good. Especially W and SW, where it would be better to have a S or O wind. NW wind is also good but than not too hard because NW wionds causes big waves. The next day we will look with extra attention to the weather.
Anyway Cuxhafen will be the marine to start the crossing.
